The energy characteristic principle – a reminder

This technique allows the visualisation of the functioning and efficiency of a heating system. Specialists can make diagnoses of heating systems on the basis of technology-independent values. The two required values – outside temperature and consumed energy - are transferred into a diagram.

The average day temperature is plotted on the abscissa, the daily energy consumption of the heating installation on the ordinate. The resulting point cloud corresponds to the energy characteristic of the installation. Regularized norms have been established for defining the basis of comparison. However, to make efficient interpretations, a daily reading is usually sufficient.
